One of the many things I loved about the Harry Potter books was not just the characters but the qualities that made them people we want in this world. They were imperfect, scarred if you will, by life and yet knew that anything but facing the light brought suffering in massive amounts. There was no one person who followed Voldemort who did not show a life full of misery, not a single one getting to express or feel a sense of love, real pleasure, connection, humanity or freedom. Each one, the embodiment of some sort of mental illness we all see on some level sociologically in our current world, that with the right tools we overcome from within.
What sets the series apart is that within it, there is a whole system of spiritual discussions that are universal to all religions, which, when looked at closer, are the tools of healing ourselves sociologically and personally that has its roots in Judeo-Christianity, Hinduism, Taoism, and so on just as much as in Jung, B F Skinner and others who pioneered psychology. A unique quality only lost on the bigoted, who forgot the fact that creation of anything is an act of God in and of itself.
The reason I say this is because there are books that are secretly, or openly referenced with the the series, as analogs or homage, that when read are the tools by which we kill the evils of the “bad guys” within our lives starting from inside, and then supporting that work outside. For example, the book the Kybalion is referenced through the imagery of the deathly hallows, a group of powerful magical items that make the magician the most powerful in the world. The literal book it references being a book about the universal qualities of experiential living with love that help us live at our highest level of consciousness.
The books being used for the potions class, being allusions to works by Paracelsus or The Practical Handbook of Plant Alchemy. Works by which the practice of doing the procedure to create a specific type of fluid, relates to a specific form of thought process that gets practiced by doing the exercise, which teaches us how to be peaceful, calm, loving, intelligent, fund loving and more. Designed in a way where the resultant product is a product that produces the same effect in those who use it – as if by magic having learned the same process as doing it plus more. An effect we see in those who smoke pot and know that more conscious growers tend to grow a more conscious product (like biodynamic weed or love lead active genetic selection), which gives us a more love centered experience.
Ms. Trelawney’s class on mysticism being a play on the prophets of the Torah, Tanakh and Bible only taken to a more comedic route with some mystical twists as would be needed to tie in how modern prophets mystify us with their prophetic work. Works like Habakkuk and Revelations speaking to the experience of those parts of the universe, that once seen, are eternal and part of our story until the end of time, no matter how we find the highest levels in the people or items in front of us, more than in any written work.
Even just the thought that miracles could happen, based solely through our intention, united in oneness with God, that are experienced by more than one person, as we experience them in real life with other, is amazing. While in the real world the look is different, we don’t have patronus’s flying through the air and fireworks we see in everything we do, we do often see these things in our inner eye when we do work with Love and God’s energy. Just as God gives us revelations and understandings, we grow to overcome the demons of the world through the tools of life. Those tools being what we learn through each religion both conscious and subconscious.
I share this because the world of Harry potter is much like the inner world of ourselves as we walk through this mundane life until we realize that the magic is always inside of us. Looking inward, we never lose it and thus get to enjoy the signs, the magic, the mystery and so on of living a good life through these God given tools. The one thing that Harry Potter doesn’t really touch on, but we know, is that real magic comes from a center of infinite love and creativity. Something, that had it been part of the story, would have meant that the bad guys magic would have not worked as it would have just been delusion and not real miracles as the good guys did.
If you are looking to explore this yourself, here are some works that will help you begin to connect your Harry Potter experience with the real world experience of a life where the tools of learning to be love and with love are at your fingertips for all occasions.
