Kuf — Monthly Letter, Adar (One-Legged Letter)

Attributes

Kuf is the last of the 12 elemental letters. It is connected to the last attribute, Malchut-Kingdom.

Its month is Adar, the last month of the year, and its zodiac sign is Pisces. It is the third level of Water.

There are two orientations of Kuf: left and right.

How to do the letter

Left orientation

To do the Kuf one starts by standing with legs together, then bending the back at 90 degrees as in the “Resh” position. While standing on the left leg, without locking the knee, bend the right leg at the knee. Support the right shin with the edge of the right hand bringing the fingertips of both hands together behind the left knee. The thumbs should touch in front of the left knee. Plant your left foot on the floor. Keep the upper back and head rounded, with the head looking at the left knee. Be careful not to interweave the fingers of the two hands, but rather have the fingertips touching. In that position, do the inner exercise 3-5 times.

Right orientation

Start as before standing with legs together, bending the back, but now stand, without locking the knee, on the right leg, bending the left leg at the knee. Support the left shin with the edge of the left hand bringing the fingertips of both hands together behind the right knee. The thumbs should touch in front of the right knee. Plant your right foot on the floor. Keep the upper back and head rounded, with the head looking at the right knee. Be careful not to interweave the fingers of the two hands, but rather have the fingertips touching. In that position, do the inner exercise 3-5 times.

As it is hard to keep balanced with the eyes closed, do the letter Kuf with the eyes open. If you wish you can do the pose leaning against a wall to keep your balance while closing your eyes.

Kuf — left orientation

(Our copy of the book only includes the photograph for the left orientation; the right-orientation photo appears to be missing from this particular scan. The instructions above cover both.)

Benefits

Doing the letter Kuf provides these benefits: relieves depression and brings back good humor, helps the spleen and urinary tract.
