Vav — Monthly Letter, Iyar (Standing Letter)
Attributes
Vav is the letter that will enable one to perform all the other letters. Vav is called in the Kabalah “The Tree of Life”. The word “Vav” in Hebrew means “Pillar”. Its pronunciation is W as in the word “what”. It is representative of the principle called the “Son”, the attribute of Tiferet-Perfection. In the Hebrew language Vav means “and”, the basic sign for connection.
Vav corresponds to the second month of spring, Iyar, and Taurus in the zodiac. It is the first level of Earth.
All exercises should begin and end with the Vav. So it is extremely important to do it correctly.
How to do the letter
Vav is done by standing up, with legs and feet parallel, in line with the hips, arms and hands dropped and open. The hands can face either in or out. Imagine that your head is suspended from a string like a puppet, relaxing all the joints in your body. What is important here is to try to feel the breath circulating through the body. Doing the Vav, one pictures oneself as an inverted tree with the head rooted in the heavens, while the body is like a trunk with branches. The first three points of the body the skull, the right brain, and the left brain are the roots of that tree. The arms, torso, legs, and sexual organ, are the trunk and the branches. The breath is the sap of the tree, which brings strength and flexibility from the roots down to the branches. In this position do the inner exercise 3-5 times or more. It is also recommended to do the Vav before any posture which you find difficult to achieve, and as a way of feeling at any time the collective effect of the letters which you have done up to that point.
Benefits
Doing the Vav brings greater physical and mental flexibility, inner strengthening, balance between body energy and soul energy, and general harmony in all areas of life.
If there is only one letter that you can do, this is it!
